Samsung announces Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Mega 5.8...

Samsung has expanded its Android smartphone lineup with the addition of Galaxy Mega series. The South Korean manufacturer has announced two phones under this range, namely Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8. Both the smartphones run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), which is presently available on only a few devices.
Galaxy Mega 6.3, as the name suggests, features a 6.3-inch TFT HD display and is powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor. This device has 1.5GB RAM and comes in 8 and 16GB memory options, with microSD card support up to 64GB. This phone can connect to the internet over 2G, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks and transfer data via Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and NFC. The manufacturer has strapped an 8MP camera with LED flash on the back of the device, whereas a 1.9MP shooter on the front.
The smaller device in the line-up, Galaxy Mega 5.8, touts a 5.8-inch TFT touchscreen and runs on a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU, coupled with 1.5GB RAM. This phone is available with only 8GB internal storage and supports microSD cards with capacities up to 64GB. Connectivity features in the device include 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. On the back of this smartphone is an 8MP shooter with LED flash, while a 1.9MP unit is used on the front panel.
There is no word on pricing, though the company says both devices are expected to launch in May.

"We are excited to provide another choice to meet our consumers' varying lifestyles, all while maintaining the high-quality features of the award-winning Galaxy series."

Google Motorola X-Phone......

Google's Motorola unit is reportedly working on X-Phone nowadays, an Android-powered smartphone that is expected to be showcased at Google I/O in May 2013.
Recent rumours say that X-Phone will not be a single device but a series that will compete against Samsung's Galaxy line-up in the market.
Speculation is rife that the X-Phone series will allow users to customise the hardware of their phone. This will allow users to select specifications like internal storage and RAM before buying the phone. Buyers will also have the option of pre-loading data like wallpapers, ringtones etc in the phone before they are delivered.
According to the latest rumour, the first device in the X-Phone series will have a 4.8-inch screen and run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It is also speculated that Google's Motorola is working on an X-Tablet as well.

Bangalore, first Indian city to get free Wi-Fi hotspots...

BANGALORE: Free wireless internet services are expected to commence in the commercial heart of India's technology capital starting next month. Mahatma Gandhi Road and Brigade Road, two of the best-known shopping destinations, will have free Wi-Fi access as part of a plan to make Bangalore the first city to have such a service available at public spots.
The idea is the brainchild of a government-appointed panel headed by Mohandas Pai, a former director at Infosys. The pilot service will be available for at least six months, after which the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) panel will evaluate the network and announce possible expansion plans.
"A smartphone revolution is happening in India, but connectivity is still an issue here. We wanted to provide seamless internet access to people," said Pai, who is also the chairman of the Manipal Global Education.
Access to broadband internet free of charge at public spots will benefit hundreds of thousands of people who browse the web through mobile phones, laptops and tablets. The Internet and Mobile Association of India expects the country to have about 165 million mobile internet users by 2015.

Adobe will try to stymie some Flash attacks with new pop-up....

Flash 11.6 to block automatic play of content in docs created with Office 2007 and older
Adobe last week announced it would add a new security feature to Flash Player in an attempt to block some of the exploits hackers are hiding inside older Microsoft Office documents.
The new feature -- a pop-up warning -- will be triggered when Flash Player detects Flash content inside documents created with Office 2007 and earlier versions.
"Since...November 2010, the most common Flash Player zero-day attack vector has been malicious Flash content embedded in Microsoft Office documents and delivered via email," said Peleus Uhley
Uhley also noted that the latest round of zero-day vulnerabilities in Flash -- ones criminals are already using by the time bugs are patched -- were being exploited with that tactic.
To make Office document-based attacks more difficult, documents generated with Office 2007, 2003 and XP -- Microsoft dropped the latter from its support list in mid-2011 -- will no longer auto-execute Flash content. Instead, when documents created with those suites are opened, Flash will display a dialog recommending the user not let the content play.
Users can select a second option and play the Flash content if they're certain the document came from a trusted source.
Flash won't bother showing the pop-up for documents generated with newer versions of Office, including Office 2010 and the just-released Office 2013, because those suites sport a sandbox that prevents automatic play of Flash content.
Microsoft calls its Office sandbox "Protected View," a feature introduced in Office 2010 and continued in Office 2013. In both suites, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files are opened in a sandboxed, or isolated, instance of the application when the file was downloaded from the Internet or opened as an Outlook email attachment.
Microsoft did not back-port the Protected View sandbox to older editions of Office.
