Life.....

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Why what happened to the Internet in Syria couldn't happen here...

The Internet shutdown in Syria likely took very little to accomplish considering the country's limited Internet infrastructure and international connectivity, network analysts said Friday.
Such a move would be much harder, if not impossible, to achieve at least from a technology standpoint, in the U.S. or other democracies with mature Internet infrastructures, they said.
Syria on Thursday suddenly dropped off the Internet, as the result of what many believe was the government's decision to pull the plug on Internet connectivity.
Internet monitoring companies, including Renesys, Arbor Networks and CloudFlare on Thursday reported seeing the drop off around 6 a.m. ET when all 84 of Syria's IP address blocks suddenly became unavailable. All Internet traffic between Syria and the rest of the world stop flowing within a period of five minutes.
Since then, the country has remained off the grid, prompting CloudFlare to describe the situation as a "more complete blackout" than any witnessed in other countries in the region over the past two years."In Syria you have a situation where there is one incumbent Internet service provider," Zmijewski said. All Internet communications go through the state-run Syrian Telecommunications Establishment (STE), which has total control over them.
All it would have taken for the Syrian government to shut down the entire country's Internet was a single call to STE, he said. STE could have simply switched off the routers handling international traffic so they would stop announcing routes to the global Internet, Zmijewski said.

Indian teens spend 86% time on Facebook daily: Survey..

NEW DELHI: Indian teens spend 86 per cent of their time daily on Facebook followed by 54 per cent on Twitter, a survey by McAfee today said.
"On a daily basis, the surveyed Indian teens spend 86 per cent of their time on Facebook followed by 54 per cent time on Twitter," McAfee's 'Secret Lives of Teens' survey said.
It added that 97 per cent of teens have access to social network, while there is a growing digital divide between teens and their parents. The survey showed that 70 per cent of the teens responded that they should not reveal their address on the interest, but 40 per cent did it anyway. On the other hand, 21 per cent parents polled by McAfee believed that the teenagers would do so.
"This divide is attributed to the fact that Indian teens are growing up as digital natives, with increasingly active online lives but lack of parental assistance," the survey said.
The research commissioned by McAfee was carried out in seven cities -- Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai comprising a sample size of 757 teenagers and 750 parents.
"Close to half of surveyed teens (45 per cent) are now using their smartphones for internet access. On an average, they open an account at the age of 13," it said.
The survey said there is an evident discrepancy between parental perception and actual reality regarding the online activities of the teenagers.
"...while parental concerns prevail, teens do end up sharing more dangerous information online, contrary to their parents belief," the survey said.
It added 89 per cent teens believe social network is safe whereas parents are less believing at 71 per cent.
20 per cent of the surveyed teens revealed they access porn/nudity online willingly several times a day, while 32 per cent parents think teens willingly access it only a few times a year.
"It's very challenging for parents to educate their technology savvy children. We hope this study provides Indian parents with some key insights and learning's on how to protect their children online," McAfee Consumer Marketing Director (APAC) Melanie Duca told reporters here.
The survey said 38 per cent teens have witnessed cruel behaviour online, whereas only 16 per cent parents are aware of this. 87 per cent of this behaviour has been noticed on Facebook, 31 per cent on Twitter and 23 per cent on email by teens. McAfee also revealed 70% of the polled parents completely trust their teens to tell them everything they do online, while 58% polled teens strongly believe that they know how to hide their online activities from their parents.

Google in talks with Dish to build wireless network, report says..

The talks are preliminary but raise the prospect of Google becoming a wireless service provider
It already sells phones and tablets, provides a wealth of online services and has been laying high-speed fiber to people's homes. Now Google is apparently considering a wireless network service as well.
Google has been in talks with satellite TV provider Dish Network over a possible partnership to build out a wireless service that would rival those from carriers such as AT&T and Sprint, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
The talks are at an early stage and could amount to nothing, and Google is just one of many companies Dish is talking to, according to the Journal, which cited anonymous sources. But it raises the prospect that Google might expand its business in a new direction.
Dish has been buying spectrum that could support a wireless service, although it still needs regulatory approval to set one up. In an interview with the Journal Thursday, CEO Charlie Ergen said the partners Dish is talking to include companies that don't currently have a wireless business.
Google declined to comment on the report, the newspaper said.
The move would take Google in another new direction and could support its goal to make high-speed Internet service more widely available in North America.

SMILE AND BE KIND....

A smile costs nothing, but it gives much.
It enriches those who receive it without impoverishing those who give it.
It happens in a flash and memories of it may last forever.
none are so rich that they can get along without it, and none so poor that they cannot be richer for its benefits.
it creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in a business, and is the countersign of friends.
it is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad and nature's best antidote for trouble.
yet it cannot be begged, bought, borrowed or stolen, for it is something that worth nothing to anyone until it is given away.
In the course of day, some of our acquaintances may be too tired to give you a smile.Give them one of yours.nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give.

Adobe, now 'married' to Microsoft, moves Flash updates to Patch Tuesday..

Will sync Flash security updates with partner's monthly schedule
Adobe on Tuesday announced that it will pair future security updates for its popular Flash Player with Microsoft's Patch Tuesday schedule.
At the same time, Adobe issued an update that patched seven critical Flash vulnerabilities, and Microsoft shipped fixes for Internet Explorer 10 (IE10), which includes an embedded copy of Flash.
But the move to synchronize Flash Player updates with Microsoft's monthly patch schedule was the bigger news. "Starting with the next Flash Player security update, we plan to release regularly-scheduled security updates for Flash Player on 'Patch Tuesdays,'" Adobe said in a statement yesterday.
Under MAPP, for "Microsoft Active Protections Program," Microsoft provides select security vendors pre-patch information to give them time to craft detection signatures for upcoming exploits or malware. In July 2010, Adobe began using MAPP to deliver vulnerability information about its products to security firms.

A SHORT STORY...

LIFE IS AN ECHO..

A little boy got angry with his mother and shouted at her,"I hate you, I hate you". Because of fear of reprimand, he ran out of the house. he went up to a valley and shouted,"I hate you, I hate you", and the echo returned "I hate you, I hate you". having never heard an echo before, he was scared, and ran to his mother for protection. he said there was a bad boy in the valley who shouted "I hate you, I hate you". the mother understood and asked the son to go back and shout, "I love you, I love you". the little boy went and shouted "I love you, I love you", and back came the echo. that taught the little boy a lesson : Our life is like an echo. we get back what we give.
life is a boomerang. Benjamin Franklin said "When you are good to others, you are best to yourself."

Future cyber attacks could rival 9-11, cripple US, warns Panetta..

The Secretary of Defense laid out why the military should be involved in defending critical infrastructure
The U.S. is facing a dramatically increasing threat from cyber attacks and a future attack on the country's critical infrastructure could have an effect similar to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks of 2001, the U.S. Secretary of Defense said Thursday evening.
Speaking at a meeting of the Business Executives for National Security (BENS) in New York, Leon Panetta called the Internet "the battlefield of the future" and spelled out what he believes the Department of Defense's role should be in cyberspace.
The military's role in securing the domestic Internet and working against attacks on commercial institutions has been controversial, although Panetta sought to get the assembled business leaders on his side by warning them of the danger a large-scale attack could have on their companies.
"A cyber attack perpetrated by nation states or violent extremist groups could be as destructive as the terrorist attack on 9/11," he said in the televised speech. "Such a destructive cyber terrorist attack could virtually paralyze the nation."

Cyber criminals plot massive banking Trojan attack..

Computerworld - An international gang of cyber crooks is plotting a major campaign to steal money from the online accounts of thousands of consumers at 30 or more major U.S. banks, security firm RSA warned.
In an advisory Thursday, RSA said it has information suggesting the gang plans to unleash a little-known Trojan program to infiltrate computers belonging to U.S. banking customers and to use the hijacked machines to initiate fraudulent wire transfers from their accounts.
If successful, the effort could turn out to be one of the largest organized banking-Trojan operations to date, Mor Ahuvia, cybercrime communications specialist with RSA's FraudAction team, said today. The gang is now recruiting about 100 botmasters, each of whom would be responsible for carrying out Trojan attacks against U.S. banking customers in return for a share of the loot, she said.
Each botmaster will be backed by an "investor" who will provide money to buy the hardware and software needed for the attacks, Ahuvia said.
"This is the first time we are seeing a financially motivated cyber crime operation being orchestrated at this scale," Ahivia said. "We have seen DDoS attacks and hacking before. But we have never seen it being organized at this scale."
RSA's warning comes at a time when U.S. banks are already on high alert. Over the past two weeks, the online operations of several major banks, including JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo were disrupted by what appeared to be coordinated denial-of-service attacks.
A little-known group called "Cyber fighters of Izz ad-din Al qassam" claimed credit for the attacks, but some security experts think a nation may have been behind the campaign because of the scale and organized nature of the attacks.
In mid-September, the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) warned banks to be on guard against cyberattackers seeking to steal employee network login credentials to conduct extensive wire transfer fraud. Specifically, the alert warned banks to watch out for hackers using spam, phishing emails, Remote Access Trojans and keystroke loggers to try and pry loose bank employee usernames and passwords.

TORRENT FILE..

A torrent file stores metadata used for BitTorrent. It is defined in the BitTorrent specification. Simply, a torrent is data about a target file, though it contains no information about the content of the file. The only data that the torrent holds is information about the location of different pieces of the target file. Torrents work by dividing the target file into small information chunks, found on an unlimited number of different hosts. Through this method, torrents are able to download large files quickly. When a client (the recipient of a target file) has initiated a torrent download, the chunks of target file that are needed can be found easily, based on the data from the torrent itself. Once all the chunks are downloaded the client can assemble them into a usable form.
A torrent file contains the URLs of many trackers and integrity metadata about all the pieces. It can also contain additional metadata defined in extensions to the BitTorrent specification. These are known as "BitTorrent Enhancement Proposals".

Oracle girds MySQL for heavier Web usage..

Oracle has issued a release candidate of the upcoming MySQL 5.6
(By Joab Jackson
October 1, 2012 03:21 AM ET)

IDG News Service - Oracle is updating its widely used open source MySQL database, and a range of associated products, in order to meet the increasing demands of Web users.

In the past decade, "The Web has transitioned from just serving Web pages to actually providing critical services," said Tomas Ulin, Oracle vice president of MySQL engineering. "You expect your e-mail to always be available, for your Facebook account to always be available. Ten years ago, it was acceptable to hit reload on your browser. Now you expect your page to come up immediately."

For its first MySQL Connect conference, held over the weekend in San Francisco, Oracle has released a number of updates to its line of MySQL technologies. It has posted a release candidate (RC) for the next version of the database, MySQL 5.6, as well as a developer milestone of the next version of MySQL that runs across multiple servers, MySQL Cluster 7.3. It has also updated its MySQL Enterprise package for commercial clients. All these updates feature new technologies designed to boost database readiness.

The MySQL 5.6 RC offers a nearly complete version of MySQL 5.6, which will probably be released in its final state within the next few months. This version comes with a number of significant features. Through the use of the Memcached API (application programming interface), MySQL can now offer a speedy way to store and retrieve database entries, one that should rival the performance of NoSQL databases.Another new feature that should please heavy users of MySQL is the new ability to execute DDL (Data Definition Language) operations without taking offline the database tables being changed.

Famous Quotes by Mother Teresa

Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls.

Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.

Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

Love is a fruit in season at all times, and within reach of every hand.

QUOTES ...

If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned

What we think, we become.

We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.

Meditation brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom

Fashion your life as a garland of beautiful deeds.

DOES MONEY COSTS MORE THAN LIFE?????

Doctors who are called the second God, known for saving the lives of people.... They are only taking away their life???
Ridiculous..
In a shocking incident that has put humanity to shame, a newborn girl child died at a government hospital in Jalandhar (Punjab) after doctors removed her from the incubator because her parents could not pay Rs 200.
The girl child was born on July 20. Being a premature baby, she needed incubator support. However, civil hospital authorities asked her father to arrange money - to pay the electricity charges to run incubator – to continue keeping the baby in incubator.
A painter by profession, Sanjiv Kumar, could not arrange Rs 200 demanded by the hospital. The poor man asked many people to lend him money but no one came forward to help.
Despite Kumar’s inability to pay Rs 200, hospital authorities, showing no empathy, removed the incubator leading to the death of the baby on Wednesday night.
Kumar said, "The baby was very ill. They (hospital authorities) asked us to deposit Rs 200 first. We begged and pleaded them to admit our child but they refused."
He also alleged that the glucose drip was also removed from the baby for non payment of dues.
The child’s mother Sunita is inconsolable. “They killed my child,” she said.
Hospital CMO says that he can’t believe that an incident like this can happen. He has asked the baby’s father to submit a complaint and then he will look into the matter.

What a shame on our society....

Samsung launches Galaxy S III with voice and face recognition

Smartphone with 4.8-inch screen to arrive in U.S. this summer; pricing not revealed
Computerworld - Samsung on Thursday unveiled a larger Galaxy S III smartphone in London, and said the phone would be sold in the U.S. this summer after launching in Europe on May 29.
The Galaxy S III, will run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and will have a 4.8-in. touchscreen with an HD Super Amoled display at 1280 x 720 pixels. It includes an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. It will also come in blue.
The touchscreen may seem large at 4.8 inches, Samsung officials acknowledged, but the device is not much bigger than the previous model, the Galaxy S II, because the bezel area around the screen has been reduced. Overall, the screen is 22% larger than the Galaxy S II.

Intelligent software in the phone provides face and voice recognition.
The phone will come with a "smart stay" feature that recognizes how a user's eyes are moving when reading an e-book or browsing the Web and will adjust the screen brightness accordingly. In a demonstration video, Samsung showed how the phone's screen will go black when a user's eyes are closed. An "s voice" natural language user interface will allow voice control of the phone. The demonstration showed how a user can use a voice command to play a song, for example

Nokia ships 41-megapixel camera phone in May...

Porting the PureView camera technology to Windows Phone is a logical next step, according to an analyst

IDG News Service - Nokia will start shipping the PureView 808 in May and has extended its deal with Carl Zeiss, which will result in further advancements in smartphone imaging in the coming months and years, the company said Wednesday.
The Symbian-based PureView 808 was announced at Mobile World Congress, and will become available in Russia and India later this month. What sets the smartphone apart is its 41-megapixel sensor.
The PureView 808 was developed with Carl Zeiss, which Nokia will continue to work with on more PureView products. Together they will carry on developing PureView for future smartphones, Nokia said.
The PureView camera is impressive, and porting it to Windows Phone makes a lot of sense, according to Malik Saadi, principal analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, as it would help Nokia to differentiate its products from the competition.
Additional countries where the smartphone will go on sale will be announced in the near future, Nokia said.

Apple's new A5X chip may be for iPad only, analysts say...

Apple delivered a performance breakthrough Wednesday with its new A5X processor for the iPad, but it's possible that this chip won't make its way into the next iPhone, analysts said. The chips used in the first two iPads, the A4 and A5, both made their way into a new iPhone soon after. But the A5X, with its heavy focus on graphics, may not be ideal for smartphone use, and Apple may wait for a more power-efficient chip built with a new manufacturing process. The A5X has two CPU cores, just like the A5, and it was the superior graphics performance of the A5X that Apple played up at its launch event for the new iPad in San Francisco. The new chip has four graphics cores, which should boost multimedia performance and allow for smooth operation of the iPad's higher-resolution, 2048-by-1536-pixel display.Dean McCarron, principal analyst at Mercury Research, also sees the current A5X as an unlikely candidate for the next iPhone, which won't require as much graphics processing power as an iPad. The current iPhone has a display density of 326 pixels per inch, greater than the latest iPad's 264 pixels per inch, but the iPhone has only a 3.7-inch display.

Intel to roll out new smartphones

Further demonstrating its resolve to expand beyond the personal computer market, Intel has announced that three more new smartphones incorporating its microprocessors will be introduced in other countries this year.

The smartphone makers are Orange, Lava International and ZTE. Intel CEO Paul Otellini, who made the announcement at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on Monday, said more smartphones containing Intel's brainy chips will be unveiled in the next year.

Galaxy Note and S Pen: Can a tweener smartphone-tablet succeed?

Analysts say stylus could help 5.3-in. Samsung device avoid problems that forced Dell to kill two Streak models

The 5.3-in. Samsung Galaxy Note, set to be available for AT&T's LTE network on Feb. 19, is called a smartphone, but its touchscreen and integrated S Pen stylus for drawing and taking notes elevates the device into a somewhat different category.

Priced at $299.99 with a two-year agreement, Galaxy Note runs Android 2.3. The manufacturer's Samsung Norway Facebook page has confirmed an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will arrive soon thereafter, though a company spokeswoman in the U.S. Tuesday wouldn't say when the new OS will be available for the Galaxy Note in this country.
The Galaxy Note also has an HD-quality video camera that has shot video footage slated to be shown in a television ad during Sunday's Super Bowl, Samsung said.

WIKIPEDIA TO GO ON PROTEST....!

Wikipedia to go dark in SOPA protest, Twitter declines...

Wikipedia's co-founder Jimmy Wales said the controversial legislation is far from dead.

IDG News Service - Wikipedia has decided to black out the English version of the online encyclopedia for 24 hours on Wednesday to protest controversial legislation in the U.S., following a cue given by some other Internet sites including social news site Reddit which will black out its site for 12 hours on the same day.
The Wikimedia Foundation said Monday that the Wikipedia community had chosen to black out its English version to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate.
"While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet," said the statement which was signed by Victoria Espinel, the White House intellectual property enforcement coordinator, Aneesh Chopra, U.S. chief technology officer, and Howard Schmidt, special assistant to the president and cybersecurity coordinator for the National Security Staff.

Google's Chrome poised to become world's most popular web browser this year, overtaking Internet Explorer

Google's fast, simple Chrome browser will move ahead of Microsoft's Internet Explorer by the end of this year if current trends continue, according to research from research firm StatCounter.

One version of Chrome - Chrome 15 - is already the world's most popular browser, according to research released by Statcounter on December 15. The open-source browser Firefox was widely expected to take Internet Explorer's crown, but recent versions have been bloated and slow.
The Chrome browser has swiftly picked up users since Google officially released it to the public in December 2008 - much later than its rivals Firefox (2004), Apple's Safari (2003) and Internet Explorer (1995) were released.
